A button box is what you use instead of mapping everything to the keyboard.
Once you put labels on, it's easier to see and use than the keyboard while you driving.  bounce bounce bounce

Hi Charl,

I would be very interested in the concept of a button box.
Have tried to find a schematic but no luck up to this point.
Please let me know when you are finished with this project.

Regards

A botton box is very nice to have. It is essentially a box with extra buttons you can press in stead of looking for a specific key on the keyboard.
I was looking at it some time ago but never had the time to start building one or even order the arduino board.
You can see here http://fergotech.net/diy-dashboard/ what it is capable of. Parts are cheap as well. Wish you all the success with it Charl.

Hey Guys so a update on the button box
I have attached pictures for u all to see

I was looking for a cheap way to do a DIY BB
So I bought a cheap 2nd hand game controller, stripped it
and removed the pc board,i was gona solder two wires to each button on the board to a switch

I bought a ABS plastic box that im gonna use for the "box"
im using toggle switches and push buttons

Im using JoyToKey to program the buttons, very easy to use

The box is still in progress I will keep u all updated

Christo...I was also looking at the arduino but found this solution as cheaper
u can also check out the Teensy 2.0 microcontrollers wich I find will be much better than the arduino and much cheaper at abt R220..u can just add a switch to the pins, but will need to program the buttons with a program I think is called Ghud
feel free to ask any questions

Charl, after you upload the pictures to imgserve and click host it. You must copy the picture url and insert it into the picture button, second from the left that says insert an image.

I got to see the pictures in the link, but it is filthy site full of porn pictures, etc.
We use Mediafire to store our pictures.
When you import the Arduino board from Asia using ebay.com it will only cost you about R120 and all you then still need is the switches and wiring, so not too expensive.

That looks pretty cool Charl.
All it needs is a bit of color now and once labeled, you good to go.  Basketball
