2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT Empty Re: 2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT

Post by Christo Nieuwoudt 5th October 2015, 22:17

As good as the first Rolling Start Race went, so bad it was for tonight. The first 2 re-starts were due to guys not staying behind the car they must follow. The 3rd re-start Dereck was told to stay behind the last car, getting a drive through penalty. Discussing it with Gustav, it could be that Dereck was over the line before the green flag.  I tested the rolling start off line with AI cars and it worked well.  So some disappointment, but as it is new to all of us and still better that spinning out on the start line ruining other's races, we will get it done properly.
As there is a big battle amongst the leaders, and surely you are in agreement, we will have a re-run next week doing a standing start.

It seem I will be the only one mit this opinion, but hear it goes...
The rolling start is fantastic and great fun, but this game got a bug which must be made aware to Reiza Studios. I am not sure how or why it happen but it happen to me like this...

Race Start
Normal formation and we go. Pace car got better speed this time down the straight and just try to get tyre to get heat. We reach last turn, pace car go in and I get good start, even pull good gap to Gustav. After turn 3 I see Ryan make big contact mit Christo so I understand restart.

Restart 1
Again everything the same and get good start. At hairpin my gap to Gustav already 1.6s so I was happy. Next moment, game restart. I do not no why but ok, no problem.

Restart 2
On formation lap in back straight, I get warning: "you are ahead of vehicle... stay behind Marius van Wyk". I think it is because the game is resyncing so I continue. When race start, warning always there so I worry now. As I cross start line, it make me 1 lap down plus I get stop/go penalty. I do not understand why and think maybe I start too soon but I no I check this green flag notified so I tell Christo who make restart again.

Restart 3
Again on formation lap in back straight, I get warning: "you are ahead of vehicle... stay behind Marius van Wyk". Now I no there is problem because I see Marius car in pit and out of game. I already am very frustrated from all restart so I warn Christo of problem again. I no it is not from going too early from pace car going into pit. I do wait for green flag notify. Again I cross the line to be last place, 1 lap down and get stop/go penalty. This is not right... Ok, what I can do... nothing. So I go to take penalty but my head is already very mix up and I make small mistake in last corner before pit entry and go off on grass. Hear I decide to give up and not race anymore. I think Christo see this and ask what happen. I tell him so he say I must continue and he will keep my points. I say ok but it impossible to catch up 2 laps down.

Even mit damage, I manage to have good pace and get fast lap always when I see Ryan and Gustav make new fast lap. I no it is not fair to other guy who drive mit no problem to share points as I also will not like, but I will only ask you this...
If you have made pole position and you are leading the formation, to get to start race in last place 1 lap behind, will you like this? I put much effort like other guys to this track because is very tricky mit big bumps, so I want to make sure I do not make repeat of Portrero. I do not want to cheat anybody but I also do not want anybody to cheat me.
I read now in other post that race will be redone mit standing start. Thank you Gustav and Christo for consideration of this because I was really depress yesterday for make so much effort to have the result I get.

2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT Empty Re: 2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT

Post by gusjacobs 6th October 2015, 09:33

Dereck, I told Christo that we need to test if the green lights works correctly at this track, because it looked to me as if you were crossing the start/finish line before the green lights went on for the last restart. From my view I was just before the start/finish line on the last restart when the green lights went on and you were already passed it.

The reason why I was so far behind you with the restarts was because I was waiting for the green light to say that we can go. According to me we must still be very careful to start accelerate hard after the pace car goes in to the pits, because if the green light is not yet on we may not pass the start/finish line. I think you get a penalty if you cross the start/finish line before the green light goes on.

Your pace was very fast anyway as usual:)

Post by Dereck K 6th October 2015, 09:51

I agree Gustav, but my issue was because I must be behind Marius.
Mit rolling start, you will get drive thru penalty if you go to early but not 1 lap down also. Unfortunately for me, it is impossible for anybody to see what come up in my display. The replay will not show it but when we cross the start line, you can already see that you are in 1st place, no? even when I am still ahead

Also, the last restart I take even more care because the previous restart I think it I start to early

Post by Dirk 6th October 2015, 10:01

I think it is important to note that rolling starts are NOT the same as the safety car restarts we're used to seeing in F1. You can't back up the pack and then just accelerate hell-for-leather out of the last corner (or even before) leaving everyone behind.

Post by Dereck K 6th October 2015, 10:10

OK... no problem. I see that this will continue to revolve around a jump start rather than what really happen - WARNING - YOU ARE AHEAD OF THE VEHICLE YOU SHOULD BE FOLLOWING - STAY BEHIND MARIUS VAN WYK.
If some find themselves in the fortunate position of pole position and this problem happen again, please do not count on my understanding.
There is no need to do a re-run at all as there are unhappy people hear and I do not want to be the cause of this. My result is my result

Post by Dirk 6th October 2015, 10:34

It would definitely seem that your game did not sync correctly then Dereck, because according to Liveracers Marius was not in the pits or out of the game on the 3rd restart, because he did complete one lap of the race. I also saw this, because he was right behind me.
I do agree that it is a pity and very frustrating that the game sometimes causes people's hard work in practice and quali to be for nothing. It has happened to all of us on occasion.

2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT Empty Re: 2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT

Post by Haribo 6th October 2015, 14:33

First things first, I want to apologize if I was the one responsible for the first (and second?) restart. I haven't been doing anything different for the rolling start compared to other rounds. This race is the first time that I am actually forming up in a single line. What confused me was that the game told me to stay on the right line.

Anyway, about the race... It was encouraging. Just really fed up that I keep making stupid and unnecessary mistakes. I had decent pace (first time since I came back haha), had a short battle with Christo but he defended well. I then spun out and had to catch up to Dirk and Shawn. While in pursuit of Shawn (I think), I clipped the inside curb on turn 1 and it threw me wide onto the deadly curbs on the exit. Car got stuck and that was my Hockenheim outing. Smile

Good job everyone who completed the race, this is a really nice, flowing track.

2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT Empty Re: 2015 GT3 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 7 5th OCT

Post by Christo Nieuwoudt 7th October 2015, 16:37

As Dereck was prepared to keep his position where he finished we will not have a re-run of the event. Thanks Dereck for the sportsmanship.
I watched the replays in detail of every car and this was what happened.
Start 1: When crossing the start line Haribo was ahead of Fraser and Marius ahead of Dirk, thus a restart required.
Start 2: When crossing the start line Haribo was ahead of Fraser and Francois ahead of Shawn, thus a restart required.
Start 3: When approaching the start line Dereck was told to stay behind Marius for some reason and as soon as he crossed the start line was placed last, thus a restart required.
Start 4: The same happened to Dereck but not to have another restart I asked him to continue.

I think there was a misunderstanding which car to follow for Haribo, Marius and Francois. The game say you must STAY BEHIND MR X IN THE RIGHT LANE. This is true but you must remember the car in front of you in the right lane is 2 places in front. You cannot cross the start line before the car in the left lane. The same applies for those in the left lane. As we basically must cross the line side by side - staggered start - you must stay to your right but allow the driver who qualified just ahead of you, and is in the left lane, to cross the start line before you.
Apart from this we will follow the following rule on the out lap behind the safety car: The lead car must stay close to the safety car and follow it around at the same speed. Every other driver must follow the car in front in the same manner. Bear in mind that you may have to slow down considerably if there are sharp corners as the safety car will slow down a lot too. Do not bump the car in front.
When the safety car exit the circuit into the pits the lead car will remain driving slowly right up to the start line. A green flag must be out before he crosses the start line and must not start speeding before the line even if the green flag is out long before reaching the start line. Racing is on as soon as the lead car crosses the start line and then he may speed off. Each other driver can then follow, but remember to keep you positions over the line.
So basically we will go slow right to the start line, speed off and cross the start in your qualifying position.
As the rolling start is new to us, loved by all, we should learn from it and follow the rules above. This way we hopefully will have good starts.

Sorry for only replying now to the forum ( as I see my name came up a few times in the discussions)
On lap 1 I got stuck on the curbs into T1, my fault of course, so my race was run.
Such a pity!
Is the points updated yet?
