This race is going to be a bit more difficult then the last time because of the tyres. Medium tyres have less grip & heat up faster.

Be careful with your tyres guys.

Hi Davy

The tracks files limit it to those tyres for now. We will have a discussion about the tyres after the race & decide about the tyre choice in future. WE have the tracks allready so we will have to make sure we update everyones to have the new tyre sets for the tracks. The new tyre physics have changes the tyres to be more like the 2014 tyres. So you get faster tyre wear now compared to when we were driving in version 1.15

The tires are as in real life. All the tracks have their own tire compounds which conform to the real tracks.
Changing the compounds would be the wrong way to go. We are trying to keep it as close to the real thing as possible. The tires will not be changed for any tracks.
I know some drivers are going to struggle a bit for grip, but we all use the same.
After the update, the tire physics were changed and the cars need a lot more hands on treatment as you will notice. Adds to the realism. lol!

I think you are wrong Kevin. My reading of it is that the tyres within the track was to conform to 2013 regulations whereas the suggested edit brings them to 2014 spec.

FReiza Round 1 Suzuka 7th Sept Empty Re: FReiza Round 1 Suzuka 7th Sept

Post by Christo Nieuwoudt 7th September 2014, 23:07

Back at Suzuka after only a few weeks helped a lot for better understanding the track and getting my times closer to that of Gert.
In race one I qualified around .4 seconds slower so I knew I had to stay with him in the race as long as possible. Tyre choices for Suzuka was Medium and Hard so I completed the full race with the mediums with a pit stop midway. Sad to say they cannot last for half a race and as I was turning into T1, still with Gert in my sight, I lost the back-end in a big way. So it was a case of ensuring it not happening again. The tyres just loose grip without warning, not a gradual fading away. After the pit stop with a new set I picked up pace again and stayed in 2nd place till the end finishing not long after Gert, who I believe also spun.
Qualifying for the 2nd race was also close between me and Gert with nearly identical quali times for both of us. So the race started the same for the pair of us, me chasing him. This time I decided that, to try and beat him to the line, I need to change my strategy by doing a 3rd of the distance with softs, then pit for a set of hard compound tyres. So I made an early stop, get my hard tyres and try to do fast times, lap after lap. So when Gert pitted I was in the lead (strategy working) with him about 4 seconds behind. All I had to do now was to keep him behind (easier said than done). But then I hit traffic in T1 and that caused Gert to get on top of me with him passing me as I could not get a clear run around the slower car.  ......Strategy out the window...... These tyres lasted a lot longer, but they tend to give the car an understeer towards the end when there were not a lot of life left in them. With a few laps to go, I found Gert going slowly down the back straight so I passed him and took over the lead. Not knowing what happened I went as fast as possible to keep him at bay as he can be persistent but at the end he was too far behind. This gave me a race win.
Sorry to have heard afterwards that you connected a slow runner as you did a good race as always and it was nice fighting with you in both races for most of the time.
I cannot comment on battles behind me as it was a concentrating right to the end. Well done to all those that finished. Lastly a BIG welcome back from holidays to Peter McNair, it seemed you was away for months on end. We did miss you and it was nice having you racing again, surely (hopefully) you missed us too and missed your racing. Lots to learn to get GSC setup to your liking but with such nice members around they will get you set up in no time....
Till next Sunday, adios.

FReiza Round 1 Suzuka 7th Sept Empty Re: FReiza Round 1 Suzuka 7th Sept

Post by Not Racing 8th September 2014, 07:51

Tyres tyres tyres, wow made the race vary exciting. to be honest I am not to convinced about the changes they have made with the tyre physics in the update. Even for a short race you have to be consevative on your tyres.

I did not realize we had Parc Ferme. So ended up doing far to many quali laps.

Race 1:
Q1  P1
Had to start on tyres that had allready done a few laps from quali. Had a good start & managed to get to turn 1 before Christo who surprised me with his pace. I did not expect that. Good to see the improvement. Because he was behind me I tried to juggle between looking after the tyres & keeping him behind me. I knew he would not be able to pass me that easily, At least that way I could then focus a bit more on making sure the tyres lasted longer in the first stint, that way giving me a longer run on the first run & giving me a shorter run on the 2de set that I could push a bit more.

Race 2:
Q1 P2
This time I made sure when I did my quali laps that I did my best in the first 1. As I matched the first races quali time I decided not to do any more runs & make sure I had more tyres left for the race.
Had a good start as is in the the first race. Once into turn 1 in first place I allready started going into tyre saving mode. Christo was chasing me down as in race 1.  Because my tyres were in good shape I did a few laps to make sure they are working properly before pushing them a bit. I did a few fast laps before slowing down a bit & not wear the tyres out to fast & drop the perfomance on them. I was surprised that christon pitted so early. I thought he mikght of made a mistake early on. I was a bit surprised to see him ahead of me when I came out after my tyre stop. I then started to set the track on fire to catch up to him. I caught up to him as we approuched a back marker that he ended up getting tangled in. I got past & opened a bit of a gap before I started driving conservatively. Close to end of the race with a healthy gap to Christo I ran into Shadow on the straight just before 130R. that about ended my chance to win the second race. I had to go pit again as I had some damage. I would not have been able to to keep driving with the damage. I was very dissappinted. But that is racing for you.

With the tyre physics been changed & tyre degregation very high, the slower guys will need to practice to get use to it. Because of the slower guys making numerice errors causing issues for the front runners, guys need to work on there consistancy. Glad we still racing the reizas & not the extremes as they are even more of a handfull then the Reiza's.

Couple of guys m issing from the race last night. Hope to see them all at the next one.

To keep things as close as possible to the real world, I think we should keep parc ferme rules for our racing. This will get drivers to get more involved in their setup and race weekend in total.

Parc Ferme applies from the time you first exit the pits during qualifying until the start of the formation lap immediately prior to the race.

Under these conditions, the work you can carry out on your car is limited to strictly-specified routine procedures. Fuel may be added to the cars, tyres changed and brakes bled. Minor front wing adjustments are also allowed, but little else. These controls mean that you cannot make significant alterations to the set-up of a car between qualifying and the race.
How does anyone else feels?

Lost faith in the car for some reason yesterday.
Didn't trust the tires, so went slower than I would have liked.
Came a good 4th in race 1 and crashed out of race 2.
Will be much better next week. Laughing

Hi guys,

Yesterday I acted over hastily by stating that I am finished with racing.
My whole purpose in doing the thread (which has been deleted subsequintly) was to create a bit of sympathy for the slower and more inexperienced racers who are not so fast and loses control sometimes when under pressure. This is not intentional and we all strive to drive better.
Accidents do happen wether in real racing or sim racing and can sometimes not be avoided.
Please bear with us who plays an important roll in filling the last 3 places on the grid regularly. lol!
You are all my friends and I love you.
See you on track soon.
